I will never mention a patients name on this blog. If for some reason I give them a name, it is just that, a name I gave them. If I say a patient is 43 years old, it probably means they are 86 years old. If I refer to them as a female patient, they very well may have been a male patient. It I say it happened in one kind of facility, it probably happened in a different facility.
I have worked in or been a student nurse in as many as 15 different facilities, ranging from large city hospitals, children's hospitals, county hospitals, home health, hospice, long term care facilities, extended care hospitals, private duty care, school nursing, psychiatric hospitals and more.
I assure you, you do not know these patients and you are not these patients, I refer to in my writing.
I will be writing from my own experiences as a nurse as well as some stories that are totally fabricated. And you will not know the difference. I am not sure I could fabricate a story as good as some of the "real life" stories. I will also be writing stories that I have heard along the way. Some of these stories could be considered "legends in nursing". Who knows if they are really true, they have been told so many times, that the story is probably no where close to the actual truth. Nonetheless, it makes for a great tale.
Congratulations on your award! You are very deserving! Your blog offers a look into the heart and soul of a truly devoted nurse!
